From Ottoman Turkish یایمق (yaymak, “to spread”), from Proto-Turkic *yād- (“to spread”). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yād-, “to spread”), Kyrgyz жаюу (jayuu, “to spread”), Uzbek yoymoq (“to spread”).
