From Proto-Philippine *bulú(dj) (“mountain”) with metathesis, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *bulud (“mountain”) (cf. Timugon and Tagal Murut bulur, Central Dusun nulu, and Eastern Bontoc filig), from Proto-Austronesian *buləd (“mountain”). See also Hanunoo bulod, Central Bikol bulod, Cebuano bulod, and Tausug būd.
