Inherited from Medieval Tashelhit اَمْلَلْ (amlal, “sand”), from Proto-Berber [Term?] (“sand”), from the root *MLL (“related to whiteness”). Synchronically from imlul (“to be white”).
Cognate with Awjila mlàl (“sand, dust”), Tuareg temă̏lălt (“white sand”), and Ghadames tamallilt (“dune sand”).
