From Ottoman Turkish تپمك (tepmek, “to kick, dance”), دپمك (depmek), from Old Anatolian Turkish دپمك (depmek), from Proto-Turkic *tep-. Related to Old Turkic [script needed] (tep-, “to hit, kick”).
