A local wanderwort for a vessel native to the Tisza ultimately from Bulgarian ша́йка (šájka) popularized also by Ottoman Turkish شایقه (şayka) and Serbo-Croatian šȃjka / ша̑јка, to distinguish from Hungarian sajta already attested in 1355 which is from Italian saettìa (“a fast, light galley”).
