iltayö

التعريفات والمعاني

== Finnish == === Etymology === ilta (“evening”) +‎ yö (“night”) === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈiltɑˌyø̯/, [ˈil̪t̪ɑ̝ˌyø̞̯] Rhymes: -yø Syllabification(key): il‧ta‧yö Hyphenation(key): ilta‧yö === Noun === iltayö late evening; the time after evening and before midnight. ==== Usage notes ==== As with all words for times of day (except päivä) in Finnish, the adessive case (iltayöllä) is normally used when talking about events that will take place or took place in the late evening. The essive case (iltayönä) is used instead, however, if there is a determiner like tämä (“this”), viime (“last”) or ensi (“next”); if the day is specified otherwise, either the essive or adessive case can be used (the former is more common). As usual, other uses, e.g. when postponing events (allative) or with asti (“until”) (illative), may use other locative cases. iltayö completes a set of four (aamupäivä, iltapäivä, aamuyö), but iltayö is relatively significantly less common than the other three. ==== Declension ==== === Further reading === “iltayö”, in Kielitoimiston sanakirja [Dictionary of Contemporary Finnish]‎[1] (in Finnish) (online dictionary, continuously updated), Kotimaisten kielten keskuksen verkkojulkaisuja 35, Helsinki: Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskus (Institute for the Languages of Finland), 2004–, retrieved 2 July 2023
