Inherited from Ottoman Turkish یكمك (yeŋmek), from Proto-Turkic *yẹŋ- (“to win”), a possible borrowing from Old Chinese 贏 (*leŋ, “to win”). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yeŋ-, “to win”), Kazakh жеңу (jeñu), Kyrgyz жеңүү (jeŋüü), etc.
