Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اوچمق (“to fly, rise into the air, evaporate”), from Old Anatolian Turkish اوچمق (uçmaq), from Proto-Turkic *uč-. Compare Old Turkic 𐰆𐰲 (uč-), Azerbaijani uçmaq.

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اوچماق (uçmaq), from Old Anatolian Turkish اوچماق (uçmaq), واچماغ (uçmağ), from Proto-Turkic *uštmag, from Sogdian [script needed] (ʼwštmʼχ, “paradise”). Sogdian borrowing underwent a semantic merge with uçmak (“to fly, rise”), thence the parallels.
Cognate with Kazakh ұжмақ (ūjmaq), Southern Altai учмак (učmak), etc. Doublet of behişt.
