== Serbo-Croatian == === Etymology === Inherited from Proto-Slavic *tỳsǫti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *tūˀsantis, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *tuHsontis, from Proto-Indo-European *tuHsont-, *tuHsenti-. Cognate with Slovene tȋsoč, Czech and Slovak tisíc, Polish tysiąc, Ukrainian ти́сяча (týsjača), and Russian ты́сяча (týsjača). In many dialects supplanted by loanwords, most frequently Greek hiljada in Štokavian, and Hungarian jezero in Kajkavian. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /tîsut͡ɕa/ Hyphenation: ti‧su‧ća === Noun === tȉsuća f (Cyrillic spelling ти̏сућа) (Croatia) thousand (+ genitive plural) Synonym: hiljada ==== Usage notes ==== Archaic and dialectal attestations, alternative accents in standard dictionaries: Jacobus Micalia 1649: tiſſuchja Ardelio Della Bella 1728: Tíſſuchja (Mille) Joakim Stulli 1806: Tisùcha, e Kostrč dialect, Bosanska Posavina (J. Baotić 1979): tȉsūća Милош Московљевић 1990: ти̏сӯћа Dubrovnik dialect (М. Бојанић - Р. Тривунац 2002): ти̏сућа HJP 2002: tìsuća (Gsg tȉsūćā) I. Čedić 2007: tȉsuća/tìsuća S. Halilović - A. Halilović 2014: tìsūća The variant with rising accent tìsuća (and Stulli's unretracted tisȕća) may be analogical due to the frequent usage of the Gpl form: lìvada-lȉvādā ≠ tȉsuća-tȉsūćā > lìvada-lȉvādā = tìsuća-tȉsūćā. Kapović considers the expected length of -u- to have been lost analogically; the forms with length in Baotić, Moskovljević and Halilović-Halilović may thus be archaic. ==== Declension ==== The accent shift is weakened: pò tisuću. === References ===
