szegfű
التعريفات والمعاني
== Hungarian ==
=== Etymology ===
szeg (“nail [spike]”) + fű (“grass”), originally in the sense szegfűszeg (“clove”), then its meaning was gradually displaced by “carnation”, based on the similarity of the shape and scent of the spice and the flower. For a similar transfer of meaning from the nail to the spice, compare Latin clāvellus (a diminutive of clāvus) and German Nelke.
