Inherited from Ottoman Turkish صاغمق (sağmak, “to milk, get, extract”), from Proto-Turkic *sag- (“to milk”).
Cognate with Azerbaijani sağmaq (“to milk”), Kazakh сауу (sauu, “to milk”), Turkmen sagmak (“to milk”), Tuvan саар (saar, “to milk”), Uzbek sogʻmoq (“to milk”), Yakut ыа (ïa, “to milk”).
