From the noun raj (“swarm, flock”) + -ong (frequentative verb-forming suffix). Calque of German schwärmen (“to swarm, to gush, to enthuse”), from Schwarm (“swarm”). Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries.
