The word is used postpositively while kanila is used prepositively.
The third-person plural nila is used instead of ninyo, niyo or mo when respectfully addressing individuals with whom the speaker maintains social distance, such as strangers, distant family members, or people of higher status. The second person pulural/polite ninyo and niyo, however, convey politeness and can be used with both familiar and unfamiliar individuals.
