== Finnish == === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈluo̯deˣ/, [ˈluo̞̯de̞(ʔ)] Rhymes: -uode Syllabification(key): luo‧de Hyphenation(key): luo‧de === Etymology 1 === From Proto-Finnic *loodëh (compare Estonian loe, Ingrian looe, loove, Karelian luuveh (“west; southwest”), Livonian lūod, Ludian luodeh (“west”), Veps lode (“northwest; west”), lodeh (“northwest; west”), Votic looõ (“northwest”)). Dialectally both the meanings “northwest” and “west” were found, the latter historically predominant in Eastern Finnish; the meaning in Standard Finnish was standardized to the former.
