From Proto-Finnic *loodak (compare Estonian looma), from Proto-Finno-Permic *loŋe- (“to throw, push away”) (compare Lule Sami lågŋot, Eastern Mari лоҥаш (loŋaš) and possibly Erzya лиемс (lijems, “to prepare yarn for weaving”)).
