Inherited from Ottoman Turkish استقرار (istiḳrār, “a being or becoming fixed or established, a settling”), from Arabic اِسْتِقْرَار (istiqrār, “confirmation, ratification, settling down”), verbal noun of اِسْتَقَرَّ (istaqarra, “to be invariable, to normalize, to be fixed, to take up residence, to abide”).
