From Ottoman Turkish ازمك (ezmek, “to crush, to pound, to bruise, to reduce to weakness”), from Proto-Turkic *ẹŕ- (“to scratch, to scrape, to knead, to press, to grind, to crush, to soak, to dilute, to rub, to smear”), morphologically ez- + -ici.
