(Gheg) njers (indeterminate), njersë (neutral), (Standard) nnjersë, ndjersë, dirsë
=== Etymology ===
From Proto-Albanian *dértsā, from either:
with loss of the unstressed initial syllable of earlier *(s)widértjā, from Proto-Indo-European *swid-ér-tyeh₂, from the root *sweyd- (“sweat”) (compare Ancient Greek ἱδρώς (hidrṓs), Latvian sviêdri, Italian sudore). Earlier reconstructions attempted to directly derive d < PIE *sw (cf. diell); however, this is no longer accepted as valid. Instead, the outcome would be #sw > #v (e.g. vjehërr, vëlla).
from Proto-Indo-European *dʰérǵʰ-ti̯(-)eh₂ (or *dʰérǵʰ-ii̯o- n.), from the root *dʰerǵʰ- (whence the verb derdh), with a semantic shift from ‘rotate, turn’ to ‘outpouring (of sweat)’.
