Compare Ancient Greek δέρω (dérō, “to skin”), Sanskrit दृणाति (dṛṇāti, “to burst, to tear”) and Gothic 𐌲𐌰𐍄𐌰𐌹𐍂𐌰𐌽 (gatairan, “to tear”).
