Inherited from Ottoman Turkish داغلامق (daġlamaḳ, “to brand, to cauterize, to wound one's feelings”), from Ottoman Turkish داغ (daġ, “a brand made with a hot iron or a branding iron”), from Persian داغ (“sear, mark left by cauterization”), morphologically dağ + -la + -mak.
