=== Pronunciation ===
=== Etymology 1 ===
==== Participle ====
benommen
past participle of benehmen
=== Etymology 2 ===
From etymology 1 specifically in the now archaic sense of "to take away", probably from the idea of being "bereft of one's senses". The past participle being applied to the person and not to what was taken is unusual, but historically there was also a usage of the verb with the person as the accusative object and that which was taken as a genitive object, as in (and perhaps influenced by) berauben.
==== Adjective ====
benommen (strong nominative masculine singular benommener, comparative benommener, superlative am benommensten)
