bürümek

== Turkish == === Etymology === From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (büri-, “to close, cover”). Since it is not attested during the Old Turkic period, Nişanyan thinks it may be a back-formation from Old Turkic [script needed] (bürün-, “to be covered”) where -n is a reflexive suffix in both Turkish and Old Turkic, see bürünmek (“to be covered”). However compare Turkmen büremek (“to cover”), Yakut бүрүй (bürüy, “to cover”), Dolgan бүрүй (“to cover”). From Proto-Turkic *bürü-, *bür-ke- (“to cover up”). Compare Mongolian бүрий (bürii, “dusk”). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?) === Verb === bürümek (third-person singular simple present bürür) (transitive) to cover, fill (a place); to spread over, take over Kenti sis bürüdü. ― Mist spread over the city.
