Borrowed from Latin aura (19th century), or possibly partly through Italian aura, cf. also French aura; mostly found in romantic poetry. It was once probably also a popularly inherited word further in the past, but was preserved as such only in other Eastern Romance languages: cf. Aromanian avrã and Megleno-Romanian aură.
