ërgjand — old Albanian
=== Etymology ===
Borrowed from Vulgar Latin, from Latin argentum (“silver”). The modern form is possibly borrowed from Italian argento (“silver”), whereas the older form rgjand was directly loaned from Latin. Considering the attested argjand, a prothetic a- (compare Buzuku's ergjand) or contamination from the Italian term cannot be excluded.
