=== Etymology ===
Latinism. Learned borrowing from Latin -tās. Coined by Indonesian politician Mohammad Yamin between 1953 and 1955 to mediate the difference of two schools in how to Indonesianise Dutch -teit, because there were two different opinions put forward -tet and -tit. Displaced Dutch borrowings -tet and -teit, -tit, although it might still be found rarely in informal context.

From Proto-Italic *-tāts, from Proto-Indo-European *-teh₂ts, whence also Attic Greek -της (-tēs), Doric Greek -τᾱς (-tās), and Sanskrit -ताति (-tāti). See also -tūs.

Added to an adjective (or sometimes a noun) to form an abstract third declension feminine noun indicating a state or condition.
Examples:
potis (“able”) + -tas → potestās (“ability”)
difficilis (“difficult, troublesome”) + -tas → difficultās (“difficulty, trouble”)
līber (“free”) + -tas → lībertās (“liberty, freedom”)
aevum (“infinite time”) + -tas → aetās (“lifetime”)
It has two allomorphs:

viduus + -tas → viduitās (“widowhood”)
magnanimus + -tas → magnanimitās (“magnanimity”)
alacer + -tas → alacritās (“cheerfulness”)
-etās (used after -i-)
proprius + -tas → proprietās (“quality, property”)
