=== Etymology ===
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اسنمق (ısınmak), from Proto-Turkic *isin-, reflexive of *isi- (“to be hot”). The reflexive form replaced the original verb.
Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (isin-, “to warm self”), Azerbaijani isinmək (“to warm up”), Crimean Tatar isinmek (“to get warm”), Southern Altai изинер (iziner), Uzbek isinmoq (“to warm”). Also compare to Southern Altai изиир (iziir).
