From Ottoman Turkish ایشیمق (ışımak), akin to Old Turkic [script needed] (yaşu-, “to shine”), from Proto-Turkic *yaĺ(č)- (“to blaze, flame”).
Cognate with Chuvash ҫиҫме (śiśme, “to shine”).
