From Ottoman Turkish اودهمك, اودمك (ödemek), from Proto-Turkic *ȫte-. Perhaps related with Proto-Tungusic *xuda- and Proto-Mongolic *kudaldu-. Cognate with Turkmen ȫdemek, Azerbaijani ödəmək, Bashkir үтәү (ütəw), Southern Altai ӧдӱ- (ödü-), etc.
