Äyräpää

التعريفات والمعاني

== Finnish == === Etymology === äyrä- +‎ pää, attested as a place name since 1323 (as Ægrepæ in the Treaty of Nöteborg). Perhaps from the name of an old family/clan Äyräs, Äkräs, which would be connected with the old Karelian deity of the same name. Other theories include derivation from dialectal äkräs (“a turnip with two bulbs”) (in reference to the shape of a nearby lake), and from a byname/nickname äyräpää/äkräpää meaning “a zealous, stubborn person”. It has also been proposed that the hundred (kihlakunta) was named after the peninsula (possibly from the turnip term mentioned earlier or an old anthroponym), and the nearby lake then after the hundred. Originally, the name was used interchangeably with Muolaa (especially in its original sense of the parish that was larger than the later municipality); the municipality of Äyräpää was established only in 1925. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈæy̯ræˌpæː/, [ˈæy̯ræˌpæː] Rhymes: -æː Syllabification(key): Äy‧rä‧pää Hyphenation(key): Äyrä‧pää === Proper noun === Äyräpää A former municipality of Finland within territory ceded due to World War II, now in Russia. ==== Declension ==== === References ===
