Originally, zeitnah was mainly used in the context of art and reporting, in the literal sense of “close to the zeit[geist]” — both the present and the respective past epoch. In contemporary usage the newer sense “soon” (often implying “as soon as possible”) dominates, substituting variously bald (“soon”), unverzüglich (“immediately”), zügig (“brisk”) etc.
