=== Alternative forms ===
widerum, widerumb, wiederumb (obsolete)
=== Etymology ===
From Late Middle High German widerumb (15th c.). By surface analysis, wieder (“again”) + um (“around”). Compare Middle Dutch wēderomme (13th c. as wı̊der+v̊mb, modern wederom), Middle Low German wedderümme.
=== Pronunciation ===
IPA(key): /ˈviːdəʁʊm/
Hyphenation: wie‧de‧r‧um
=== Adverb ===
wiederum
(slightly higher register) in turn, then again, on the other hand, to the contrary
Synonyms: dagegen, hingegen, wieder
(dated, chiefly literary) again, once more
Synonyms: wieder, erneut, ein weiteres Mal, noch einmal, nochmal
==== Usage notes ====
In sense 1, simple wieder may also be used, but the choice depends on various factors, including intonation.
In sense 2, wiederum is now rare, stylistically marked, and generally only possible at all when the speaker seeks to emphasize the number of repetitions.
