vras

== Albanian ==
=== Etymology ===
Inherited from Proto-Albanian *u̯ərátˢ < older *u̯ərátˢə, from Proto-Indo-European *(h)u̯arn-áti̯a/e-, with the meaning going from "to wound (mortally)" to "to kill". This further continues PIE *(h)u̯arnā- (“wound”) (source of varrë (“wound”)). An initial Pre-Proto-Albanian *u̯r- can be excluded as it would have led to Albanian rr- and not vr-.
Orel considers it from Proto-Albanian *awa-rautja, from Proto-Indo-European *reu (“to tear, to destroy”). This is unlikely as there is no independent evidence of PIE *reu̯H-d- extended to dental. Furthermore, *rou̯(H)-d-éi̯e/o- would have led to Alb. *-rés ~ -rét, as seen in vesh (“to wear”), ndez (“to light”), qell (“to bring”), qes (“to pull out”).
