== Latvian == === Etymology === From Proto-Balto-Slavic *wilkás, from Proto-Indo-European *wĺ̥kʷos. The word would originally have been a descriptive nickname ('the killer, the plunderer, the destroyer'), the original name having perhaps become a taboo word.
