Back-formation from vigaszt (“to cure, brighten, cheer up”) and vigaszik (“to get well”). Both verbs are Old Hungarian derivations from the adjective víg (“joyful, happy”). Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries.
