From Ottoman Turkish اویارمق (uyarmak, oyarmak, “to wake, rouse, stir up”), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (oyar-, “to wake”), from Proto-Turkic *od-gur- (“to wake”), causative of the unattested stem *od-. Compare uyanmak (“to wake up”), passive/reflexive of the same root. Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰆𐰑𐰍𐰆𐰺 (odɣur-, “to wake”).
