=== Etymology ===
Literally, “without food and drink, the hero will not function”. First attested in print in Jens Christian Edvard Theodor Mau's 1879 Dansk ordsprogsskat. A similar sentence was first written by Johan Herman Wessel in 1772 as "Uden Øl og Mad er Helten ingen Ting" (Literally, “Without beer and food, the hero is nothing”). Changed to make the phrase rhyme.
