From Proto-Polynesian *tuqa-siwi (“ridge of a mountain”), from *tuqa (“back”) and *siwi (“ridge of hill”). By surface analysis, tua (“back”) + hiwi (“ridge”). Cognate with Hawaiian kuahiwi.
