Literally, “single handle”. The tsʼił element is also seen in tsʼiłkʼey (“one”); -tenʼ means "handle." Compare Lower Tanana tth'iɬten' (“bow”). However, Kari identifies the first element of that word as -tth'ila' (“forearm”), which is cognate with Ahtna -tsʼiileʼ.
