truie

التعريفات والمعاني

== French == === Etymology === Inherited from Late Latin troia. Cognate with Italian troia, Occitan truèja, Catalan truja, Walloon troye. Further origin uncertain: It has been compared to Latin porcus Troiānus (literally “Trojan pig”), a singularly attested name for a stuffed roast of pork, so called by humorous comparison to the “filled” Trojan horse. More likely of Celtic origin, from a Gaulish *trogja, from a root meaning “to pull” and thence also “fertile," Proto-Celtic *trāglo-, for which see Latin traho. Finally it might be an imitative formation after the sound of a pig's grunt. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /tʁɥi/ === Noun === truie f (plural truies) sow (female pig) (derogatory) unclean woman ==== Hypernyms ==== cochon porc pourceau ==== Coordinate terms ==== verrat (boar) === Further reading === “truie”, in Trésor de la langue française informatisé [Digitized Treasury of the French Language], 2012
