Synonyms: transgender (rare), transgenderedness (sometimes offensive), transgenderness, transness For more quotations using this term, see Citations:transgenderism. (anti-LGBTQ slur, derogatory, offensive) A purported ideology behind transgender identities, trans activism and trans rights movements; transness as an ideology. Coordinate terms: homosexualism, gayism For more quotations using this term, see Citations:transgenderism. ==== Usage notes ==== The term has been historically common in science and social science literature, but is little used by the transgender community and considered offensive by most. According to GLAAD, the term is primarily used by anti-transgender activists who seek to delegitimize and dehumanize trans people, and synonyms like "being transgender" should be used instead. In 2015, Julia Serano wrote that she agrees that the term has been appropriated by transphobic authors in recent years and used as though it referred to an ideology (compare e.g. liberalism or conservatism) rather than a state of being; she does not consider its historical usage offensive per se but notes that it has since become objectionable. ==== Related terms ==== gender ideology ==== Translations ==== === References ===
