trans woman

التعريفات والمعاني

== English == === Pronunciation === === Noun === trans woman (plural trans women) A transgender or transsexual woman; a woman who was assigned male at birth, that is, a person who was assigned male at birth, but has a female or primarily female gender identity. ==== Usage notes ==== Trans woman is often spelled with a space, with trans as an adjective modifying the noun woman, similar to Asian woman, tall woman, fat woman, etc. The unspaced spelling transwoman is sometimes used interchangeably, including by a few transgender people. However, it is often associated with views (notably gender-critical feminism) that hold that transgender women are not women, and thus require a separate word from woman to describe them; for this reason, many transgender people find transwoman offensive. ==== Alternative forms ==== transwoman, trans-woman (proscribed) trans womyn (transfeminist spelling, especially of the plural) ==== Synonyms ==== transgirl, trans girl TG girl (slang), t-girl (derogatory, slang), TS girl (slang), M2F, MTF, MtF newhalf (slang, rare) zenana (South Asia) shemale (derogatory, offensive, proscribed, chiefly in pornography) trans-identified male (derogatory, offensive, proscribed) ==== Hypernyms ==== transfem trans person woman ==== Hyponyms ==== trans lesbian ==== Coordinate terms ==== trans man, cis man, cis woman ==== Translations ==== === See also === MtF transfeminine === References === === Further reading === “trans woman”, in Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, Springfield, Mass.: Merriam-Webster, 1996–present.
