A semi-learned form, using the borrowed suffix -ción, and based on the stem of the Old Spanish form trayçón, from Latin trāditiōnem (or formed from the Old Spanish verb traer, itself from Latin trādere, and the suffix -ción); compare Catalan traïció, cf. also French trahison, Italian tradigione. Doublet of the more recent borrowing tradición.
