From Ancient Greek τόνος (tónos, “a tone”) + -φάντης (-phántēs), from φαίνω (phaínō, “to show”). Compare hierophant.

tonophant (plural tonophants)
(dated) A modification of the kaleidophone, for showing the composition of acoustic vibrations. It consists of two thin slips of steel welded together, their length being adjustable by a screw socket.
