tjetër
التعريفات والمعاني
== Albanian ==
=== Alternative forms ===
jetër, jatër — obsolete or Arvanitika, Arbëresh
qetër, çetër — Gheg
tjatër, tjatrë — Tosk
tjer m sg — dialectal, northern Gheg
sjetër f sg — archaic
tjetër, tjeter, tetër — Borgo Erizzo
=== Etymology ===
Univerbation of jetër, jatër, now only Arbëresh, with the preceding të. Compare archaic sjetër for the feminine singular ablative, the byform jetërsoj of tjetërsoj, and Arbëresh Albanian njatër, njetr (“another”) for standard një tjetër. The plural form të tjerë might be a remnant of an old paradigm with accent shift, as in *éter- : *(e)tér- > jetër : tjerë. Note also that i tjer is also attested as a dialectal byform for the masculine singular.
Cognate of Old Church Slavonic етеръ (eterŭ, “a certain”), Latin c-ēterus (“the other one”), from *h₁e- (“this”) + *-teros. Has also been compared Ancient Greek ἕτερος (héteros, “other”), which although phonologically incompatible as it reflects Proto-Indo-European *sḿ̥-teros, remains a fitting morphological parallel.
=== Pronunciation ===
IPA(key): /ˈtjɛtəɾ/, [ˈtje.tɜɹ]
Rhymes: -ɛtəɾ
