Singular form of a more spread plural tirq, cognate to Romanian tureac (“top (of a boot)”), tureatcă. Either an old loanword from an East Germanic language, Gepid or Gothic *𐌸𐌹𐌿𐌷𐌱𐍂𐍉𐌺𐍃 (*þiuhbrōks) (cf. Old High German theobroch (“gaiters”), English thigh, breeches), via Late Latin tubrucus, or, a more probable theory, a derivative of tjerr.
