tiltas

== Lithuanian == === Etymology === From Proto-Indo-European *tlh₂-tó-m (“lifted up”), from *telh₂- (“to bear, tolerate”). Derksen connects Sanskrit तीर्थ (tīrtha, “passage, ford”) as an exact cognate; however, the Sanskrit term is generally thought to derive from *terh₂- (“to cross, pass through”) instead. An obsolete theory from Pokorny derived the word from Proto-Indo-European *stel- (“to spread, to spread out”). Cognate with Latvian tilts (“bridge”). === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈtʲɪɫ.tɐs/ === Noun === ti̇̀ltas m (plural ti̇̀ltai) stress pattern 1 bridge (structure spanning a divide) medinis tiltas ― wooden bridge akmens tiltas ― stone bridge geležinis tiltas ― iron bridge plieno tiltas ― steel bridge tiltas per upę ― bridge over a river tiltas per kanalą ― bridge over a canal tiltas per tarpeklį ― bridge over a ravine arkinis tiltas ― arch or bow bridge kabantis tiltas ― suspension bridge pasukamasis tiltas ― rotating bridge varstomasis tiltas ― lifting bridge pakeliamasis tiltas ― drawbridge kelio, geležinkelio tiltas ― road, railway bridge pėsčiujų tiltas ― pedestrian bridge ==== Declension ==== === References === == Portuguese == === Verb === tiltas second-person singular present indicative of tiltar
