التعريفات والمعاني

== Finnish == === Etymology === tieto (“data, information, knowledge”) +‎ kone (“machine”). Coined as a neologism, perhaps as a short version of tietojenkäsittelykone, in 1959 (also in sporadic use in science fiction prior to then), but only popularized in the 1960s; already listed under the addenda in the sixth volume of Nykysuomen sanakirja, released in 1961. A similarly formed word is Swedish datamaskin (now dated in place of its shortened version dator), which may have served as an inspiration. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈtie̯toˌkoneˣ/, [ˈt̪ie̞̯t̪o̞ˌko̞ne̞(ʔ)] Rhymes: -one Syllabification(key): tie‧to‧ko‧ne Hyphenation(key): tieto‧kone === Noun === tietokone computer (programmable electronic device) ==== Declension ==== ==== Synonyms ==== tietojenkäsittelykone (dated) kompuutteri (archaic) sähköaivo (obsolete) tietsikka (colloquial) kone (colloquial; shorter form) ==== Hyponyms ==== kannettava pöytätietokone sylimikro ==== Derived terms ==== ==== See also ==== tietotekniikka tietojenkäsittely === Further reading === “tietokone”, in Kielitoimiston sanakirja [Dictionary of Contemporary Finnish]‎[1] (in Finnish) (online dictionary, continuously updated), Kotimaisten kielten keskuksen verkkojulkaisuja 35, Helsinki: Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskus (Institute for the Languages of Finland), 2004–, retrieved 1 July 2023 tietokone on the Finnish Wikipedia.Wikipedia fi
