tietokone
التعريفات والمعاني
== Finnish ==
=== Etymology ===
tieto (“data, information, knowledge”) + kone (“machine”). Coined as a neologism, perhaps as a short version of tietojenkäsittelykone, in 1959 (also in sporadic use in science fiction prior to then), but only popularized in the 1960s; already listed under the addenda in the sixth volume of Nykysuomen sanakirja, released in 1961. A similarly formed word is Swedish datamaskin (now dated in place of its shortened version dator), which may have served as an inspiration.
