== Vietnamese == === Etymology === Shorto proposes that this may have been loaned from Khmu, by comparing its element thốt with Thin Khmu [script needed] (tŭt) & Yuan Khmu [script needed] (tu:t, “plant, tree, trunk, stem”); however, Hoàng Xuân Việt (2006) proposes that this is from Khmer ត្នោត (tnaot). Ultimately from Proto-Mon-Khmer *tn(oo)t ~ tnu(u)t (“sugar palm”); another cognate is Central Mnong tɒ:m no:t.
