tereyağı
التعريفات والمعاني
== Turkish ==
=== Etymology ===
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ترهیاغی (tere yağı), some sources claim it is derived from Persian کره (kare, “butter”) (compare Azerbaijani kərə yağı), however others dispute the consonant shift from /k/ to /t/ as impossible, and claim the origin to be Persian تر (ter, “humid, wet; fresh”), indicating an earlier adjectival form tere yağ (“fresh butter”). Compare tere (“cress, watercress”) from the same origin.
