tereyağı

التعريفات والمعاني

== Turkish == === Etymology === Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تره‌یاغی (tere yağı), some sources claim it is derived from Persian کره (kare, “butter”) (compare Azerbaijani kərə yağı), however others dispute the consonant shift from /k/ to /t/ as impossible, and claim the origin to be Persian تر (ter, “humid, wet; fresh”), indicating an earlier adjectival form tere yağ (“fresh butter”). Compare tere (“cress, watercress”) from the same origin. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /teˈɾe.jɑː/, [t̟ʰe̞ˈɾe̞.jɑː] Hyphenation: te‧re‧ya‧ğı === Noun === tereyağı (definite accusative tereyağını, plural tereyağları) butter Synonyms: sağyağ, sadeyağ, sarı yağ ==== Declension ==== ==== Derived terms ==== === References === === Further reading === “tereyağı”, in Turkish dictionaries, Türk Dil Kurumu Çağbayır, Yaşar (2007), “tereyağı”, in Ötüken Türkçe Sözlük (in Turkish), Istanbul: Ötüken Neşriyat, page 4752
