== Hungarian == === Pronunciation === IPA(key): [ˈtɛlɛk] Hyphenation: te‧lek Rhymes: -ɛk === Etymology 1 === The etymology is disputed. It has been derived in at least three ways: From the same Proto-Finno-Ugric root as the verb telik (“to fill”). From tel (“ground, soil”) + -k (noun suffix). For the same suffix, compare lélek (“soul”). From Oghur *tilök “separated (area)”, from Proto-Turkic *til (“to cut”), via Old Hungarian telük. In this case, possibly cognate with Kyrgyz тилке (tilke, “parcel, lot”). ==== Noun ==== telek (plural telkek) lot (US), parcel (of land), plot, piece of ground (an area or land used for building on or planting on) ===== Declension ===== === Etymology 2 === tél (“winter”) +‎ -ek (plural suffix) ==== Noun ==== telek nominative plural of tél === Etymology 3 === telik (“to fill, to become full”) +‎ -ek (“I”, personal suffix) ==== Verb ==== telek first-person singular indicative present indefinite of telik ===== Usage notes ===== This form occasionally occurs when a verbal prefix is separated from the verb: telek (…) be, be … telek ― betelek ― betelik telek (…) el, el … telek ― eltelek ― eltelik telek (…) meg, meg … telek ― megtelek ― megtelik === References === === Further reading === telek in Géza Bárczi, László Országh, et al., editors, A magyar nyelv értelmező szótára [The Explanatory Dictionary of the Hungarian Language] (ÉrtSz.), Budapest: Akadémiai Kiadó, 1959–1962.
